House Bill 2610 Funding Implications for 2016-2017

posted Aug 19, 2016, 4:36 PM by Cash Keith   [ updated Aug 19, 2016, 4:36 PM ]

The 84th Legislature amended Texas Education Code (TEC), §25.081, and created TEC, §25.0812, in order to move from a school year where districts were required to provide 180 days of instruction to a school year where districts are required to provide 75,600 minutes of instruction. This TAA addresses funding for the 2016–2017 school year only. Local education agencies should consult their own legal counsel for additional legal consideration that may apply as a result of this legislation

TEA posts correspondence regarding Home Schools

posted Aug 19, 2016, 11:21 AM by Cash Keith   [ updated Aug 19, 2016, 11:21 AM ]

Yesterday, TEA posted a "To The Administrator Addressed" letter that outlined policy regarding home schools.

1.  Schools who use Leaver Code 60 only need as documentation a signed and dated letter from a parent or guardian that a student is being schooled at home.  It is not necessary to receive a letter of this type each year, nor are the parents required to appear in person.  Parents also do not have to present curriculum for review.

2.  Students transferring from a home school are to be treated in the same manner as students transferring from unaccredited private schools.  The awarding of credit may be determined by curriculum review, student work, or appropriate assessments.  When using assessments, the passing standard should be no higher than the standard required of students transferring from unaccredited private schools, and the letter gives more detailed guidelines.

TEA's Home School correspondence is posted below for convenience.
